Washington, D.C. – The prestigious World Food Prize Laureate for this year will be unveiled at the 2023 World Food Prize Announcement Ceremony, scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The event will be held at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.

The ceremony will feature remarks by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, who will be joined by other notable figures, including Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez, Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs Ramin Toloui, Special Envoy for Global Food Security Cary Fowler, and USAID Global Food Crisis Coordinator Dina Esposito.

The World Food Prize is awarded annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to human development by enhancing the quality, quantity, or accessibility of food worldwide. This year marks the 37th anniversary of the establishment of the World Food Prize.

The announcement ceremony will be open to the press for in-person coverage. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the Department of State’s official website and YouTube channel.

Cameras will have a pre-set time of 8:45 a.m. for positioning at the National Academy of Sciences C Street entrance. Access for writers and still photographers will be granted at 9:30 a.m. from the same entrance.

Please note that parking will not be available at the venue, and all members of the press will undergo security screening upon arrival.

Media representatives interested in attending the ceremony must present one of the following credentials: (1) a U.S. Government-issued photo media credential from recognized entities such as the Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center; (2) an official photo identification card issued by their news organization; or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their employer confirming their current employment as a journalist.
