Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum announced on Wednesday that authorities are searching for a suspect who shot five people at Northside Hospital Medical in Midtown Atlanta. The incident left one person dead and four others injured, all women ranging in age from 25 to 71 years old. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Deion Patterson, fled the building and is believed to have carjacked a nearby vehicle. He is still at large, and there are active leads in Cobb County and the city of Atlanta.

Patterson is a former Coast Guardsman, who entered in July 2018 and was last a second-class electrician’s mate. The Coast Guard is working closely with Atlanta police and other authorities in the investigation. The victims were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta’s only Level 1 trauma center, where three of them are in critical condition.

Police have issued a “be on the lookout” for Patterson and are urging the public to not approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous. The Atlanta Police Department has released images of the suspect wearing a hoodie and is asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 911. The Cobb County Police Department is also assisting in the search in areas such as Vinings, Cumberland, and Truist Park. The police chief said that they are working diligently to bring the suspect into custody, and their deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families.
