Born and raised in Hanover, New Hampshire, he attended public schools before pursuing undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Virginia. Notably, Maloney is recognized as the first openly LGBT person elected to Congress from New York and the highest-ranking openly LGBT individual to serve in the House. He and his husband, Randy Florke, have been together for 30 years and have three children.
In another important nomination, Jack A. Markell has been selected for the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Italian Republic and the Republic of San Marino.
