Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Lee Satterfield, is scheduled to embark on a diplomatic visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from May 17 to May 20, 2023. During her visit, Assistant Secretary Satterfield will focus on advancing important bilateral public diplomacy initiatives between the United States and Jordan.
One of the key objectives of Assistant Secretary Satterfield’s trip will be to promote inclusive economic growth and educational opportunities. Recognizing the significance of cultural diplomacy, she will emphasize the role of the creative economy and the protection and preservation of cultural heritage in driving Jordan’s tourism sector.
In line with promoting gender equality, Assistant Secretary Satterfield will engage in discussions centered on expanding access to economic and educational opportunities for women and girls, with a particular focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
As part of her itinerary, Assistant Secretary Satterfield will deliver remarks at the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Jordanian-American Commission for Educational Exchange (JACEE). JACEE plays a vital role in administering the Fulbright Program with Jordan, facilitating educational exchanges between the two nations.
Furthermore, Assistant Secretary Satterfield will hold bilateral meetings with senior government officials to discuss areas of mutual interest and cooperation. She will also visit projects supported by the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, underscoring the importance of cultural heritage in fostering cross-cultural understanding.
To engage directly with individuals involved in exchange programs, Assistant Secretary Satterfield will meet with American and Jordanian exchange participants, as well as program alumni, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
